Lesson
Introduction from Jeff Fiorentino
This lesson deals specifically with a mixture of odd and even time
within a track and also using secondary guitars and bass to create the mood
of a repeating riff. This is a topic we've touched on in our
songwriting series, but it's composition 101, it's the foundation for how
you're going to create music. It's not about having a cool riff, it's
about what you do with a given riff and of course what's happening around
it. This can be done with band dynamic or mixing time, or both as is
the case of our track here which bounces around between 7/4 and 4/4 time.
This is a very good songwriting lesson, however I've decided to throw it
into the Rock category instead as it's also a great genre lesson as well.
Please as always listen to the song example a few times before diving into
the tabs below and the video lesson. You'll get much more out of the
lesson that way...

**That's the gist of the main
song parts,
below we've tabbed the solo for you and the final outro of the song as there is
a slight change-up in feel with that.. Obviously please see the video
guitar lesson for details and lesson etc..
SOLO -
4/4 Time
The solo for this track has 2 parts but they slide into one another.
You'll need to have your foot handy on the over-drive to make it work and
there's some pickup switching going on as well. All of this and more are
indicated in the tabs for you..
Part 1 of the solo is a neo-classical piece
using mainly a Rhoads style approach. While part
2 is just a straight up Rock solo but there are some things to take
note of such as what pitches the lead guitar is on over the main riffing.
I should also point out that solo part 1 is over a unique chord pattern to the
song while solo part 2 is over the Chorus riff..
Keep that in mind as you're reviewing the tabs and hopefully learning the rhythm
you're soloing over as there is no real solo
lesson for you if you don't understand what chord changes or riffing all of this
is done over..

Solo Part 1 -
NO OVER-DRIVE IN USE. - Front
Pickup - single coil Stratocaster.
